English Actor Robert Pattinson has been officially cast as Bruce Wayne in Warner Brothers upcoming trilogy of films to feature DC’s biggest star, directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) Variety reported today.
The Batman, the first in a trilogy of films to feature Gotham City’s most famous crime fighter, was originally being developed for the previous wearing of the cape and cowl, Ben Affleck, to co-write, direct and star in. Matt Reeves took over as director, when Affleck decided not to direct the film, before eventually bowing out of the role completely.
Pattinson, best know as immortal teen vampire Edward Cullen from the Twilight films, narrowly beat out Nicholas Hoult (X-Men First Class, Tolkien) as the studio’s choice to play the latest Dark Knight.
The casting news confirmed that the new Batman movie, will begin preproduction this summer, with no official word when filming may begin.
The Caped Crusader is expected to return to theaters on June 25, 2021.
